La Boucherie (Los Angeles, USA) ★★★★☆

After laying low for the first few days of the trip, it was time to check out the city like a foodie. While I do have a number of places that I want to check out in LA, my buddy St Paul has already done all the homework before picking La Boucherie as our first fine-dining experience on this trip.

Opened in July 2017, Intercontinental Los Angeles Downtown is billed as a skyscraper with sweeping view of downtown Los Angeles. They offer a few dining options at the hotel but La Boucherie, a modern steakhouse with a French twist on the 71st floor, is the obvious crown jewel.

On a typical winter night like this, the sky got dark in a hurry but the view was still spectacular from up high.

I missed out on their description of our amuse bouche as I was busy chatting with St Paul. It was something creamy (and soupy) with crispy croutons right in the middle of the action.

Escargots Bourguignon (USD $22) - For a place touted for their French twist, of course I had to check out their escargots. This was done the traditional way with lots of garlic butter. Pretty nice start.

Pan seared foie gras (USD $28) - Another classic French dish with two slices of perfectly seared duck foie gras served with poached apple and quince tatin.

42-day dry-aged ribeye (USD $95) - La Boucherie offers a wide variety of USDA certified prime beef and I went with their ribeye which was dry-aged for 42 days. That was wonderfully tender with a beautiful crust on the outside. Very very nice.

For a steakhouse, La Boucherie surprises me a little with its incredible selection of desserts (Steakhouse generally offers boring desserts!) but since I was a bit drowsy from my cough medicine, we decided to retire early for some much needed rest instead.

We had a wonderful time with St Paul's family tonight. The view and vibe were amazing here and so was the French inspired food menu. The only thing which would have our night even better was perhaps a kid's menu, or something for the kids. Our server did check with the kitchen but was told that they ran out of all their pasta so the kids were stuck with just bread and more bread for the night.
