Bakehouse Wanchai (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★★☆

For months, I have been waiting for chef Grégoire Michaud's bakery shop to open its doors and finally, some great news this week! The long awaited opening of Bakehouse from the former Four Seasons Executive Pastry Chef is here at last.

Occupying a split storey space on Tai Wong Street East, Bakehouse is now serving breakfast and lunch exclusively. Not only can fans expect to see chef Michaud's signature croissants and artisanal sourdough loaves fresh out of the oven, there will be other goodies like bergamot pies, Hokkaido milk buns, cheese and fruit danish, quiche and much more. When it comes to drinks and beverages, the bakery will be working with a local coffee roaster supplying a small selection of coffee and drinks served right here at the counter.

Chef Michaud, master of pastry and bread, writer and blogger can be seen directing traffic in the semi-open kitchen. Busy man!

I was running a little late for my meeting so all I could do was to grab a couple of their cruffins ($38) on the go.

As a hybrid of croissant and muffin, this delicious cruffin has the crispy flaky exterior of a croissant but in the shape of a muffin. The whole thing was filled with lime flavored custard in the middle. Very nice.
