Sona (Seoul, SOUTH KOREA) ★★★★★

In a culinary world that changes by the second, nothing can be considered a constant in Seoul except for Sona (소나), who's been constantly "making desserts better"Located just on top of Ryunique, a former Asia's best 50 winner in Sinsa, Sona has been a lock to offer diners guilty pleasures of decadent desserts since its opening.

After stops at Max Brenner, Amorino and Deux Amis café earlier the day, I thought we were done in the dessert department but I guess not.

Making desserts better is the mojo here and I could definitely relate to that, after trying two of their desserts first-hand.

We pretty much decided what we wanted to get as soon as we checked out all the colorful pictures on the electronic menu.

First up was the house specialty - Oh! Chocolate.

A lot of ingredients were put inside this very small "package" including New York Breakfast Tea infused brulee, 70% Guanaja flourless chocolate cake, milk chocolate mousse, Valrhona pearl crunch chocolate, and last but not least, Madagascar vanilla ice-cream.

And we're supposed to pour this hot chocolate sauce on top of the chocolate and let it float onto the rest of the ingredients.

For someone not particularly excited about chocolate, I have to say I was mighty impressed with this. The symphony of contrasting flavors and textures had our taste buds jumping for joy.

Champaigne Sugar Ball was next. This looks a bit like Robuchon's sphere dessert but yet they've managed to bring it to another level.

The hand crafted sugar ball was stuffed with a champagne foam, edible flowers, cheesecake snow, strawberry panna cotta and fresh strawberry slices. We were supposed to crush the surface.....

.....and pour the lukewarm strawberry consommé onto the sphere.

This looks absolutely gorgeous and it's making a compelling case for the best dessert of the year for us (though it's still early).

Sona is well worth the one-hour break from anyone's busy shopping schedule. Like most dessert places in Seoul, Sona is closed every Mondays so adjust your schedule while you can.
