Patisserie Potager (Tokyo, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

Everyone is talking about eating healthy these days. If you are madly in love with desserts but also want to stay healthy, then Patisserie Potager has the perfect solution for you!

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Meguro Ginza Kan-non in the Nakameguro district, Patisserie Potager is a little pastry shop specializing in vegetable-based desserts.

You can find all sorts of funky creations including the likes of avocado cheesecake, arugula jelly with black-sesame and soy-milk mousse as well as white asparagus and tea Mousse cake here.

According to numerous sources, the owner-chef here is a vegetarian herself and she insists to only use locally sourced organic produces to prepare her desserts.

There's only a single table available inside this lovely cafe but at least 5-6 more outside at their open-air terrace in front of the shop.

They have English translations on each of these labels. Perhaps even better if they have the detailed description translated into English too.

Apart from their signature avocado cheesecake, interesting creations such as pumpkin chiffron, mont blanc with tomato etc. are also very popular choices here.

We went with the signature avocado cheese cake but it was a little disappointing.

A layer of jelly, on top of some fresh avocado and cream cheese. The jelly had very little taste so did the avocado.

The short cake with tomatoes and Japanese greens tasted so much better. It actually felt like having a refreshing tomato salad. Highly recommended!

The shopping street near Meguro Ginza Kan-non is full of hidden gems. Be sure to check out some of the vintage stores if you have time.

Verdict: Stay away from the avocado cheese cake and go for the short cake with tomatoes and Japanese greens.

Note: Patisserie Potager is one of the few patisseries that open on Sundays.
